Boyfriend and I have set this as our year to clean out all our baggage. The shed, the cupboards, the utensil drawers and even the knick-knack bowls with all the useless spanner tools you get from assembling cheap furniture. It is one of those make-the-space-and-the-spiritual-enlightenment-will-come things.
It has led to some big changes around our house – whole rooms have been switched around as we discover what works best in each space. I can’t claim an enlightenment as such yet but perhaps a “lighten-ment” will do?
The house is working better and everything feels more free as we worry less about what is under all the clutter, and have a rather vicious plan to hold on to only what we need (and actually use). It has reached its fingers into other areas too, and we find ourselves loathe to bring anything extra in – physically and emotionally. All our time and energy seems so precious that we are letting go of anything and anyone who makes us feel bad or tired.
I hope to report back by the end of this year as a considerably lighter being, with a much stronger sense of what I need and what deserves my time.
