Birthdays here and there

I can’t believe it is almost the weekend again. It feels like far too few days have gone by.

This is just a quick update to add a few photos. It was Nick’s birthday in the weekend and we decided to get out and explore one of our magnificent neighbors, Whariti Peak. Nick had never been up there and Lasagne couldn’t remember ever being up there (she was only 3 last time), so we bundled into the car on Saturday and trundled up to the top.

There is a track that heads down the other side so we followed that until we all felt it was snack time. We were lucky enough to have the place mostly to ourselves and the weather was so clear and the view magnificent.

Then, of course, it was off to Woodville for some lunch - Yum! We investigated the shopping capital of New Zealand thoroughly, and then came home with a few treats.

Our garden has been all messed up, not knowing what to do and when to ripen anything. We have had a good crop of tomatoes, which are still going, but our ‘infestation’ of pumpkins hasn’t seemed to want to ripen much at all.

Our sunflowers finally came out with beautiful happy faces though, so all is not lost. We have some extravagant plans for next year. Ok…I have some extravagant plans, and Nick is willing to go long with them and dig the holes for me. Well that is not entirely fair, as Nick seems to be getting as excited by our self-production as I am and is all keen for me to sell some of my surplus seedlings out the front gate.

All quiet on the legal front as we wait for the defendant’s information capsule to be submitted in the next two weeks. The liquidation of the company is almost complete, with the defendant’s debts having to be written off as too expensive to pursue. It is nice it is going to be all tidied up by the end of the financial year. It will be a few months after that when the company will be officially closed down.

There was also a birthday down South, and a very nice catchup on the phone - thanks to our favourite Cantabrians!

As far as training goes at the moment, Nick and I are ‘transitioning to natural running’. The whole thing works on the principle that the heel support in most modern shoes is actually doing us damage and we should learn to run more naturally. So I now have some gorgeous spider-man shoes (bright blue and red) that have hardly any heel and let me feel the ground as I run. We have just started the 8 week training period and I am already achy from all the strength exercises…oh my tummy muscles…oh my quads…oh the soles of my feet (no really, there seem to be muscles in there too…who would have thought?)
